Replace first sc on round with 1 ch and finish round with 1 sl st in ch from beg of round. Turn each row with 1 ch.
CROCHET 2 SC TOG:
Dec 1 sc as follows: Insert hook in sc and pull thread through, insert hook in next sc and pull thread through, make 1 YO and now pull thread through all 3 loops on hook.

BOOK MARK:
First crochet the head and the hat, then the body. Crochet with 1 thread and crochet hook size 2.5 mm/C/2.
HEAD + HAT:
Ch 5 ch white and form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch.
ROUND 1: 8 sc in ch-ring – See CROCHET TIP!
ROUND 2: 2 sc in each sc = 16 sc.
ROUND 3: * 1 sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc *, repeat from *-* to end = 24 sc.
ROUND 4: * 1 sc in each of the first 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc *, repeat from *-* to end = 32 sc.
Work 6 rounds with 1 sc in each sc.
Change to black and work 4 rounds with 1 sc in each sc. Fill a little poly stuffing in the head. On next round work 2 sc tog all the way round – see above = 16 sc. Work 4 rounds with 1 sc in each sc. To make the hat pointed to one side work the first 2 sc on each round tog until there are 3 sc left. Cut the thread, tighten the tread end round remaining sts and fasten.
HAT RIM:
Crochet with black between the first 2 black rounds on the hat: 1 sc in first sc, ch 3, then 1 dc in each sc to end = 32 dc, finish with 1 sl st in 3rd ch from beg of round. Next round: 3 ch + 1 dc in first dc, then 2 dc in each dc = 64 dc, finish with 1 sl st in 3rd ch from beg of round, cut thread.
BODY:
Work 5 sc in a straight line with white along the lower part of the head. Turn piece - See CROCHET TIP – work 2 sc in each sc = 10 sc. Continue back and forth with 1 sc in each sc until body measures 6 cm / 2½''. On next row inc 1 sc at beg and end of row by working 2 sc in the next-to-last sc, repeat the inc on every 8th row a total of 6 times = 22 sc. Continue with 1 sc in each sc until piece measures approx 22 cm / 8 3/4''.
Work next row as follows: ch 3, then 2 dc in each sc. Turn with 3 ch and continue as follows: 1 sc in first dc, * ch 3, 1 sc in next dc *, repeat from *-* to end. Cut and fasten thread.
ARM:
Crochet 4 sc with white at the top along one side of body, then 4 sc on the back of these = a total of 8 sc. Continue in the round with 1 sc in each sc until arm measures 6 cm / 2½'' – do not cut the thread but continue with hand.
HAND:
Work 1 round with 2 sc in each sc = 16 sc. Work 3 rounds with 1 sc in each sc, then 1 round working 2 sc tog all the way round. Cut the thread, fill a little poly stuffing in the hand, tighten thread end round the opening and fasten.
Crochet an arm and hand in the same way on the other side of body.
FACE:
Embroider eyes and a round mouth with black.
